13 www.FLmedical.org FLORIDA MEDICAL MAGAZINE | FALL 2015 In May, the FMA hosted the fi rst-ever spring conference, "Work. Life. You: Healthy Living for Today's Physician," which focused on personal and professional wellness for doctors. Held at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort in Orlando, the conference included yoga on the beach sessions, networking opportunities and presentations from experts on wellness and medical practice innovation. Participants also earned CME credits. "We wanted to provide a diff erent kind of conference experience for physicians — one that focused on their overall well-being," said FMA Vice President of Education and Membership Melissa Carter. "Helping physicians practice medicine also includes providing opportunities for them to learn how to achieve and maintain wellness. When doctors take good care of themselves, they are better able to take care of their patients." "Work. Life. You" proved to be a big hit with members and non-members alike, and the FMA will host the event again on May 19-21, 2016 at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort. Next year's conference will explore the intersection of medicine and technology. "It's rare to have an opportunity to attend a conference that fo- cuses specifi cally on the health of the physician. We physicians are so busy taking care of others that we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves," said FMA member Shelley Glover, M.D. " e FMA's spring conference provided the perfect mix of sessions about personal wellness and professional wellness, and the diverse panel of speakers was excellent. We practiced some much-needed self-care and enjoyed being with our colleagues in a relaxing setting. I even got to fi nish an a ernoon with a relaxing yoga session! I highly recommend attending." Spring conference put physician wellness in the spotlight "It's rare to have an opportunity to attend a conference that focuses specifi cally on the health of the physician.
